About The Travel Prac

The Travel Prac was founded by Ben, a highly experienced Nurse Practitioner with over a decade of frontline emergency and primary care expertise. His unique career journey combines clinical excellence, advanced study, and a passion for travel medicine.

A Strong Clinical Foundation

A Strong Clinical Foundation

Ben began his nursing career in 2012 after completing his Bachelor of Nursing, quickly advancing to work as a Registered Nurse in emergency departments. By 2016, he had earned a Postgraduate Certificate in Rural Critical Care, strengthening his ability to manage acute and complex medical situations in both metropolitan and remote environments.

Emergency and Adventure Experience

For more than 10 years, Ben worked in busy emergency departments, developing the skills and confidence needed to manage high-pressure clinical situations. In 2019, he expanded his expertise into the outdoors, volunteering as a Kokoda trek medic. Since then, he has completed the Kokoda Track multiple times, providing medical support in challenging and unpredictable conditions. This experience has given him invaluable insight into the preparation and care trekkers need before embarking on such demanding adventures.

Advanced Qualifications

In 2020, Ben commenced his Master of Nurse Practitioner studies, graduating in 2023 as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner. The following year, he broadened his scope into general practice as a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, allowing him to support patients across the spectrum of health and wellbeing.

In 2025, he completed further specialised studies in Travel Medicine, formalising his passion for preparing individuals and groups for safe and healthy travel.

Why The Travel Prac?

Ben’s combined background in emergency medicine, primary care, and travel health means he brings a rare depth of knowledge to his patients. His hands-on experience with trekkers on the Kokoda Track has shaped his approach to travel medicine—ensuring people are properly prepared before they set off. This includes:
